Ocean Therapy
Waikiki is known not only as a place of peace and hospitality, but a place to come to heal.
The royal ali’i, the traditional nobility of the Hawaiian Islands
long ago, would come to Kawehewehe to bathe in the
natural healing waters. Wearing a limu kala, or seaweed lei, a symbol of asking for forgiveness for past sins (“Kala” to
forgive) would offer the lei to the waters. Hawaiians believed that this offering would remove all burdens, ailments of their physical, spiritual, & emotional states, relieving them of sickness.
Wai, the Hawaiian word for water symbolizes life. The Ocean contains all of life’s vital elements including mineral salts,
vitamins, amino acids, and other trace elements. Our Ocean holds amazing medicinal benefits. The Ocean is rich in iodine, which helps to regulate the thyroid gland, our metabolism, boosting energy levels. The refreshing ocean sprays & breezes carry tiny negative ions that are absorbed through the lungs and spread throughout the body strengthening our immune system.
When we bathe in the ocean water the full therapeutic benefits begin with opening our pores allowing toxins to be eliminated out of the body and permitting living microscopic organisms to enter which secrete hormonal & bacteriostatic substances that contain potent biological healing properties. The constant surge of the waves wraps around our bodies providing a healing, pulsating massage to reduce inflammation, pain, and alleviates a diverse array of chronic conditions, injuries, and ailments. The Hawaiian culture revere and honor the sea, acknowledging it’s powerful, therapeutic, and limitless health benefits.
At IV Ocean Therapy, we hold in high regard and honor the cultural beliefs of our island hosts. We share a common philosophy that encompasses the interconnectedness of all elements in life. In our approach to health and wellness, we acknowledge the seamless connection of mind, body, and spirit and the life waters of our oceans.

Ocean Flotation Therapy
Dr. Deborah Cracknell, author of “By the Sea”, The Therapeutic benefits of being in, on, and by the water, discusses the role of magnesium and other essential minerals, both in our ocean and in our body’s. The therapeutic benefits of magnesium by absorption through our skin while in the ocean through flotation therapy. Many research studies have shown that flotation therapy can help with lowering levels of the stress hormone cortisol, helping lower blood pressure, weight loss, improve wellbeing and enhance performance. Flotation therapy reduces stress levels and cortisol levels in two ways. The first way is magnesium inhibits (stops) adrenocorticotropin (ATCH), a hormone that instructs our adrenal glands to release cortisol, and secondly, magnesium helps with improved sleep quality, thereby reducing stress levels. More studies showed that floatation therapy helped lower levels of lactic acid in our blood, improving muscle stiffness and pain.
Magnesium is one of the most important minerals found in every cell in our bodies. Magnesium is an essential mineral needed for muscle contraction, conducting nerve impulses, regulating a normal heart rhythm, building strong bones and teeth, cellular energy production, regulating blood glucose levels, and blood pressure.
Magnesium is gained naturally through the food we eat; however, it is not always easily absorbed through the gastrointestinal tract. Gastric bypass, GI disorders like IBS, Crohn’s disease, vitamin D deficiency’, poor gut health, anxiety/stress, depression, PTSD, among many other chronic health conditions, all can limit absorption of this essential mineral. Here at IV Ocean Therapy, we can offer you fun and easy ways to supplement your magnesium and other essential mineral and vitamin levels to restore and enhance your body and mind while immersed in the healing ocean waters.
Ocean Flotation Therapy
for Anxiety/PTSD/Substance Abuse
Immersion into the healing ocean waters begins the therapeutic benefits of relieving symptoms of anxiety, stress, depression, and PTSD. Flotation therapy may not cure the condition, however reducing the worst symptom of stress, in combination of other therapeutic treatments, bad habits such as drug and alcohol abuse, pain & loss of sleep are more likely to be managed. Numerous studies have shown that flotation therapy promotes overall wellness of the body providing the sufferer a more focused, objective, and productive life.
In combination with ocean floatation therapy, we treat with IV infusion therapies to provide “biochemical restoration” with NAD+, and essential nutrients.
So, what is biochemical restoration?
For our brain & bodies to function correctly, we need all the necessary macronutrients, vitamins, amino acids, and minerals. With disease states like PTSD, depression, & substance abuse the biochemistry of the body is altered, changing hormone levels, causing nutritional deficiencies, poor gut health, increasing inflammation leading to further diseases and illness states. We here at IV Ocean Therapy offer ocean flotation therapy & iv nutrient infusions to start the biochemical restoration process helping with returning the mind and body back to functioning optimally; relieving stress, cravings, and providing
balance so you may begin the healing process.
Are you struggling with stress, PTSD, depression, substance abuse, or dual diagnosis?
Ocean therapy can help build skills to manage healthier coping mechanisms. During recovery finding healthy ways to heal is invaluable and needed especially in the beginning of treatment.
Bio-chemical restoration can start with holistic interventions like ocean therapy, IV therapy treatments, proper nutrition and supplements which are evidence-based treatments to promote recovery from addiction, dual diagnosis, PTSD, stress, and depression.
So why Ocean Therapy?
Ocean therapy is also known as thalassotherapy. Thalassa, a Greek word for the ocean has been practiced for centuries, dating back to the Romans, who used to soak in the waters after a battle to promote relaxation and improve physical and mental health wellness.
There are many forms of ocean or floatation therapy including exercise in heated pools, saltwater baths, and sensory deprivation float pods filled with Epson salt (magnesium); however, nothing replaces the power of healing from mother nature in the ocean.
How some mental health disorders develop.
Modern society is always on the go with no down time. Daily stressors can trigger depression and anxiety leading to unhealthy coping mechanisms like alcohol or drugs. Many people with undiagnosed and untreated mental health disorders often self-medicate, providing only temporary relief leading to worsening symptoms of stress and depression.
People unable to cope with stress using healthy coping mechanisms leads to high levels of stress that affects the Cardiovascular symptom (high blood pressure, heart disease), Immune system dysfunction (often run down or sick), digestive system (bloating, nausea, constipation, diarrhea, poor gut health and malabsorption issues), musculoskeletal system (muscle and joint pain, stiffness), central nervous system (nervous ticks, anxiety ) and your brain is depleted from the needed neurotransmitters of serotonin and dopamine that regulate mood (depression, and fatigue).
The Psychology behind why Ocean Therapy is so effective.
Study after study by researchers have increasingly explored the calming effect of nature on the mind. Just being in, on, or around water has a powerful positive influence on your wellbeing and mental health. The color blue, in itself, is associated with peace and tranquility, experiencing the “Blue Mind”.
Our brain waves are altered while looking at the ocean placing us into a slight meditative state allowing us to reflect and contemplate. The ebb and flow of the ocean waves relaxes us like a rocking baby.
